On the final day of the Life Member Conference, attendees were offered a tour of ICON Home Zero, a model of a 3D Printed House near downtown Austin.
There were two homes at the Home Zero site: a 2-Br, 2,200-square-foot main home and a 1-Br Auxiliary Dwelling Unit (ADU) of about 400 square feet. Walls are built using a large 3-D Printer that covers the entire site and extrudes a concrete-like material.
This example is beautiful, with 10-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, custom wood cabinetry, and ceilings. This approach allows thick curved walls to provide strength and R-40 insulation. The walls were printed in about 8 days.
