A new Africa Council IEEE Life Member Affinity Group (LMAG) was formed on July 2, 2024, by petitioner Professor Michael Osaretin Omoigui. This LMAG is one of the few Council-wide Joint LMAGs covering 11 sections and areas outside of Sections in Africa.
It wasn’t easy because Africa does not have many Life Members. At inception, the LMAG membership comprised 17 Life Members from 7 African Countries (Algeria, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia) and two Region 8 sub-sections (Botswana and Sudan). The LMAG Officers are Michael Osaretin Omoigui of Nigeria, Chair; Dr. Amor Dhaqui of Tunisia, Vice-Chair; and Dr. Abel M. Katahoire of Uganda, Treasurer.
Members of the LMAG participated in two events: 2024 IEEE Xtreme 18.0 Programming Competitions and Tunisian Student Branch and Young Professional Congress (TSYP). The Life Members will act as proctors for the Xtreme Competition and Mentors for the TSYP event.
