BOSTON FUN FACT: Today we take fire alarm systems for granted. But it wasn’t until 1852 that the first city-wide fire alarm system was introduced in Boston, speeding up dispatch times considerably. On October 1, 2004, IEEE Milestone 50 was dedicated in honor of this lifesaving invention. You can see the commemorative plaque at the historic Fire Alarm Office located at 59 Fenway in the Back Bay section of Boston.
While you’re in town for the conference, find the milestone marker, take a selfie and email it to the IEEE History Center at ieee-history@ieee.org with the message line, “Milestone selfie for posting.”
Looking forward to seeing you in June!
