Meet Marc Apter – Regional Coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic United States
Marc Apter is currently the Region 2 Life Member Coordinator which covers the Mid-Atlantic United States. He received a B.S.E.E. degree in electronics from Pennsylvania State University in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy for five years. He then worked in Arlington, Virginia, United States, for the Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) for 11 years, where he was responsible for installation of systems on ships. In 1980, he transferred to the Chief of Naval Material for five years, developing policy, auditing maintenance planning, and overseeing procurement and operations budgets.
He continued to work at NAVSEA for 15 more years; first managing its Metrology and Calibration Program; then managing its Maintenance and Configuration Management Program; and, finally, as the NAVSEA Command Information Systems security manager for more than 25 sites, developing information assurance policy for over 60,000 government and contractor employees.
In 2000, he joined URS Corporation, in Dahlgren, Virginia, United States, where he was a senior information assurance specialist, developing security documentation for U.S. Navy shipboard computer systems, until retiring in 2011.
Marc has numerous IEEE activities including being president of IEEE-USA in 2013, Region 2 director from 2009 to 2015, and chair of the Northern Virginia Section in 1987–1988. He can be contacted at [email protected].
