Israel Section Celebrates 70 Years of IEEE Section Excellence

On October 5, 2024, the Israel Section leadership, the Israel LMAG, and past Section Chairs (Life Fellows) came together at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Tel Aviv, Israel to celebrate their 70-year legacy and achievements.

Established on October 5,1954, they were the first section of the Institute of Radio Engineers (I.R.E) in the Eastern Hemisphere. Following the merger with the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) in 1963 to become the IEEE, they were the first section in IEEE Region 8 encompassing Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Today the Section boasts 24 professional technical groups including chapters and affinity groups. Its achievements include an IEEE Medal of Honor to Prof. Jacob Ziv in 2021 and three IEEE Milestones awarded in 2004, 2006, and 2024.

The event honored past Chairs and the current management members. However, the highlight of the evening was a surprise presentation of an Honorary Plaque to Section Chair Shmuel Auster from IEEE President Tom Coughlin. The award was presented by Dr. Aleks Dyskin in recognition of Auster’s outstanding leadership and dedication to the Section.
