Richard JohnsonDr. Richard L. Johnson passed away on August 2, 2022. He was an IEEE Life Fellow and member of the Lone Star Section and Life Member Affinity Group.

Dr. Johnson was born on 12 June 1938 in Oklahoma. He served in the US Air Force from 1956-1960. Following his service, he received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering. He was honored by Oklahoma State University, where he received his doctoral degree as an outstanding graduate student in Engineering.

He moved with his wife and family to San Antonio in 1970 and began his career at Southwest Research Institute, where he worked his entire career, achieving the status of Institute Scientist and IEEE Fellow.

The IEEE Lone Star Section issued a proclamation making 2 August 2022 Richard L. Johnson IEEE Day.

Walt Downing, Vice Chair of the IEEE Lone Star Section, on March 3rd, was privileged to join IEEE Lone Star Section Chair Nils Smith (on the right) in presenting a Proclamation honoring Dr. Richard Johnson, to his wife Ethel Johnson, saying: “Be it now proclaimed, by the IEEE Lone Star Section, that this Section, for and on behalf of its members does hereby honor this 2 August 2022 as Richard L. Johnson IEEE Day”.
