Abstract of the above Lecture:

Power System Reliability Assessment is an essential component of the Power System Planning Exercise undertaken for any Power System. It is generally done separately for a Generation System, an Interconnected Multi-Area System, a Composite Power System or a Distribution System. There are Analytical Methods available for carrying out these exercises. In addition parallelly Monte Carlo Simulation Methods have also been developed for all these System Studies. They essentially use Random Sampling Statistical Probability Distribution Tools for the assessment. The Objective of this webinar is to present an Overview of the Monte Carlo Simulation Methods, starting from the basic Random Sampling Approaches used for generating the up-down cycles of the various components of the system using relevant long term failure rate, repair rate and their durations data of the components, subsystems and the load data of the system and the methodologies used in solving the Reliability Indices Evaluation Problem for all these systems.

Brief Profile of the Invited Speaker:

Dr. R. Balasubramanian obtained his Ph.D. degree from IIT Kanpur. After serving in B.H.E.L. Projects Engineering Division, New Delhi during 1975-79, he joined IIT Delhi in the Centre for Energy Studies, where he occupied various positions and retired as a Senior Professor in 2012.He served as NTPC Chair Professor (Elect. Engg.) at IIT Delhi for over 10 years.
He has executed successfully some major consultancy/sponsored research projects for organizations such as NTPC (R&D), BHEL, Easun Reyrolles, Siemens, Wartsila, World Bank, MNRES and CBI &P.
He has guided 20 Ph.D. Theses at IIT Delhi and published over 150 research papers in various International Journals & Conferences of repute.
He served as the Chair of the IEEE Delhi Section during the years 2000 & 2001. He was the chair of the IEEE Hyderabad PES/IAS/PELS Joint Chapter during 2014 & 2015 and Chair of LMAG during 2019 & 2020. He is currently in the Executive Committee of the IEEE Hyderabad Section Reliability Society Chapter
