Converting a 100-year old villa into a modern data center

This talk will discuss issues involved in converting a 100-year old recently renovated villa located in Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo, into a Co-location Data Center (ColoDC). The facility is intended to be a commercial offering to start-up enterprises and to provide a back-ip site for Google. Joe will discuss design requirements, includuing the results of a survey visit and the architectural and mechanical constraintsw discovered. Of significant interest was the existing electrical service quality snd quantity. Photos of as-found conditions, as well as what conversions were made to enable the new equipment and cabling installation will be shown. Joe will describe several unique situations, such as unannouonced phase reversals by the serving utility and the unique characteristics of electrical poweer in the area.
