The award ceremony was held May 28, 2022 at San Antonio Museum of Sciences and Technology. The Datapoint 2200 is recognized as the first Desktop Personal Computer with development starting in 1969, and first deliveries starting in 1970. The design pioneered the computer architecture and instruction set which became the Intel 8008, the first 8-bit microprocessor. This award was sponsored by IEEE Region 5, Lone Star Section, Lone Star LMAG, and Young Professionals Affinity Group.
The Stepping Stone Award recognizes technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity found in unique products, services, seminal papers, and patents. An achievement must have importance to the technologies associated within Region 5 in order to be proposed as a Stepping Stone.
