On 21 June 2022, two IEEE Milestone Awards were unveiled at the Kilburn Building at the University of Manchester in Manchester, England.
The first Milestone was the Manchester “Baby” Computer, developed at the University of Manchester and first demonstrated on 21 June 1948. It showed the first cost-effective random-access memory system using an electro-static storage tube. The “Baby” Computer presented a stored program running on a general-purpose computer for the first time.

The second Milestone award was for the Atlas Computer, developed at the University of Manchester jointly with Ferranti Ltd, and shown on December 1962. This computer demonstrated virtual memory and a multi-taking multi-user operating system for the first time.
