Dr. Thomas L. Harman, past chair of the Galveston Bay section and current Life Member Affinity Group Chair, died on 10 April 2023 at age 80.
Harman received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Rice University. He was a staff engineer in the Controls System Department of Lockheed Engineering. Harman was the department chair of engineering with the College of Science and Engineering of the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). He began his full-time career at UHCL in 1979. He served as director of the Center for Robotics Software at UHCL. The center’s purpose is to involve NASA, industry, and other universities in robotics education research.
