About the Speaker
Ronald M. Reano is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University, Columbus, where he also serves as Co-Director of The Ohio State University Center for Quantum Information Science and Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2004.
Prof. Reano’s current research focuses on quantum networking at the system and component levels. He is the recipient of the DARPA Young Faculty Award, the ARO Young Investigator Award, the NSF CAREER Award, and the Ohio State University College of Engineering McCarthy Teaching Award. He is also a 2024 Intel Outstanding Researcher Awardee in recognition of work on Quantum Curriculum Using the Intel Quantum Software Development Kit.
Abstract
Quantum information science and engineering involve harnessing superposition and entanglement of quantum mechanical objects. Primary applications span quantum computing, sensing, communications, and metrology.
Quantum networking is moving from laboratories to real-world infrastructure, and Ohio is exploring information security across deployed optical fiber networks. This presentation will highlight current quantum networking projects underway, measurements of quantum key distribution (QKD) in deployed fiber environments, potential roles for integrated photonics, and future growth trajectories in the state.
