DESCRIPTION:Pikes Peak IEEE Life Member Affinity Group\, Joint Electron Devices/Circuits and Systems Chapter\, Solid State Circuits Chapter\, Pikes Peak Section\nApril In-Person Meeting\, Tuesday\, April 7\, 6:00 pm MDT\nDowntown Panino's\, 604 North Tejon Street\, Colorado Springs\, CO 80903\nHP Focus 32-bit NMOS Microprocessor\nThe First Single Chip 1 Micron 32-bit Microprocessor\nJim Mikkelson\, Former HP Fort Collins\, Project Manager\nHewlett Packard built it’s first semiconductor fab in Loveland\, CO in 1970 to build 7 micron NMOS chips used in HP calculator and desktop computer products. By 1975\, they were building 5 micron ROM products and the processor chips for the HP9871 Printer and a family of desktop computers. Loveland became the world’s largest NMOS fab at the time.\nIn 1978\, HP built a new fab in Fort Collins to manufacture an advanced 1 micron NMOS process for the HP Focus 32-bit microprocessor to be used in HP desktop computer and workstation products. Jim Mikkelson was a Member of the Technical Staff at the time and would become Project Manager for the 1 micron NMOS process development for the Focus microprocessor. Jim will describe the challenges of concurrent development of process\, circuit\, and system while building a new fab with new advanced lithography\, deposition\, etching\, and metallization processes. DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Florida West Coast Section Power & Energy Society/Industry Applications Society (PES/IAS)\, in partnership with GE Grid Solutions\, invites you to an exclusive tour of the GE/ITI Clearwater Instrument Transformer Facility. This facility is GE’s primary manufacturing site for instrument transformers rated below 69 kV\, producing over 500\,000 dry-type transformers annually for utility and industrial applications. This event will feature two key components:\nClassroom Session (2 hours):\nGain a deeper understanding of instrument transformers\, including what sets them apart\, their various types\, applications\, and how to interpret nameplate data. The session will also explore their role in the industry’s future and include an introduction to capacitors.\nFactory Tour (1.5 hours):\nExperience a guided walk-through of the factory floor\, observing key processes such as component production\, core manufacturing\, transformer winding\, casting\, and final testing. As a special addition\, the tour will include a brief visit to the capacitor production area\, located in the same facility.\nA complimentary lunch will be provided following the tour.\nParticipants are required to wear safety shoes and safety glasses.
