SUMMARY:Personal IT Security
DESCRIPTION:Personal IT Security\nHow to practically apply cybersecurity principles in everyday home life\n(With a brief but through review of cryptography concepts)\nRobert Bleidt – Streamcrest Associates\nAs an IEEE member\, others probably look to you for computer and network support and you’re likely the default home network manager\, even if you don’t have any background in security. This seminar is designed to help you with some practical advice beyond the simple platitudes told to the public\, but below hacker level and extreme measures.\nWe will start with a brief high-level summary of the cryptography that secures digital communications – RSA\, Diffie-Hellman\, AES\, PDFs\, etc. – and touch on what will change as quantum computers mature.\nThis background will help in discussing how long passwords should be\, and what VPNs are good (and not good) for.\nUnfortunately\, correct cryptography only protects computers – it’s not protecting against things you do or let happen. So\, the rest of the seminar will focus on practical ways to harden your network\, and more importantly\, your users.\n– Why your users (and you) can’t be trusted with passwords and how to fix that.\n– How to get insecure IoT devices off your home network.\n– What type of router is best for your house?\n– What should you do when traveling?\n– You’re having a great time on vacation and suddenly your phone is missing.\nThis will be in the spirit of an informal “lunchtime seminar” and should be fun. The presenter is an engineer with a side interest in security who has developed secure systems but is not employed in the security industry and has no “axe to grind”.\nPLEASE register for this event to help have a list of participants to mark present and email PDH forms. Continue requesting PDHs to ensure you receive your PDH.\nPlease email (mailto:roybrown@southernco.com) after attending the event if you want a PDH certificate.\nContact Roy lee brown if you cannot log in: 205-842-6761 or email for help.\nI will email you a Link that works for me.\nWe look forward to you joining us and sharing this exciting program.\nIEEE wishes to thank Victor Ivanov\, Georgia Tech grad student and works for Mercedes\, for assisting Roy Brown to enter this eNotice program.\nIEEE and SCS are proud sponsors of the USA college COOP program!!!! EAGA\, Educating America to be Great Again!\nSpeaker(s): Robert Bleidt\, \,\nAgenda:\n4:00 PM Presentation\n5:00 PM – Adjourn\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/485554

SUMMARY:HP Focus 32-bit NMOS Microprocessor - The First Single Chip 1 Micron 32-bit Microprocessor
DESCRIPTION:Pikes Peak IEEE Life Member Affinity Group\, Joint Electron Devices/Circuits and Systems Chapter\, Solid State Circuits Chapter\, Pikes Peak Section\nApril In-Person Meeting\, Tuesday\, April 7\, 6:00 pm MDT\nDowntown Panino's\, 604 North Tejon Street\, Colorado Springs\, CO 80903\nHP Focus 32-bit NMOS Microprocessor\nThe First Single Chip 1 Micron 32-bit Microprocessor\nJim Mikkelson\, Former HP Fort Collins\, Project Manager\nHewlett Packard built it’s first semiconductor fab in Loveland\, CO in 1970 to build 7 micron NMOS chips used in HP calculator and desktop computer products. By 1975\, they were building 5 micron ROM products and the processor chips for the HP9871 Printer and a family of desktop computers. Loveland became the world’s largest NMOS fab at the time.\nIn 1978\, HP built a new fab in Fort Collins to manufacture an advanced 1 micron NMOS process for the HP Focus 32-bit microprocessor to be used in HP desktop computer and workstation products. Jim Mikkelson was a Member of the Technical Staff at the time and would become Project Manager for the 1 micron NMOS process development for the Focus microprocessor. Jim will describe the challenges of concurrent development of process\, circuit\, and system while building a new fab with new advanced lithography\, deposition\, etching\, and metallization processes. A similar talk was awarded the Outstanding Paper Award at 1981 IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference.\nSpeaker(s): Jim Mikkelson\,\nAgenda:\nIntroductions\nDinner\nPresentations\nQ&A\nBldg: Downtown Panino's Restaurant\, 604 North Tejon Street\, Colorado Springs\, Colorado\, United States\, 80903

SUMMARY:GE Clearwater Instrument Transformer Facility Tour
DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Florida West Coast Section Power & Energy Society/Industry Applications Society (PES/IAS)\, in partnership with GE Grid Solutions\, invites you to an exclusive tour of the GE/ITI Clearwater Instrument Transformer Facility. This facility is GE’s primary manufacturing site for instrument transformers rated below 69 kV\, producing over 500\,000 dry-type transformers annually for utility and industrial applications. This event will feature two key components:\nClassroom Session (2 hours):\nGain a deeper understanding of instrument transformers\, including what sets them apart\, their various types\, applications\, and how to interpret nameplate data. The session will also explore their role in the industry’s future and include an introduction to capacitors.\nFactory Tour (1.5 hours):\nExperience a guided walk-through of the factory floor\, observing key processes such as component production\, core manufacturing\, transformer winding\, casting\, and final testing. As a special addition\, the tour will include a brief visit to the capacitor production area\, located in the same facility.\nA complimentary lunch will be provided following the tour.\nParticipants are required to wear safety shoes and safety glasses. The facility does have safety shoe covers available\, but supplies are limited\, please include during registration if you will need a shoe cover + shoe size. Hearing protection will be provided at the necessary locations. Additional information regarding parking and other instructions will be provided ahead of the event via email to those registered.\nCo-sponsored by: GE Vernova\nSpeaker(s): Ryan Alkire\, Lead Technical Applications Engineer – GE Vernova\,\n1925 Calumet Street\, Clearwater\, Florida\, United States\, 33765
