In January 2026, the IEEE Life Members in France were pleased to welcome Barbara Tversky, a cognitive psychologist who has served at Hebrew University, the University of Michigan, Stanford University, Maladarens University, the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS), and Columbia Teachers College.
Tversky is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the recipient of several awards, including the 2020 Kampe de Feriet Award, for her contributions to cognitive psychology, particularly her work on memory, thought, spatial mental models, and event perception.
The title of her talk was “Mind in Motion” and she presented research on the brain, on language, on gesture, and on the way we think, communicate, and create using the cognitive tools we put in the world to augment our minds, to show that our actions in space and with the things in it form the foundation of all thought.
