DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nHow Identity\, Enterprise Context\, Observability\, and Bounded Authority Shape Live Risk Decisions\nAn aircraft may begin its journey with a verified pilot\, an approved flight plan\, and permission to take off. But that approval does not guarantee that the original route will remain safe for the entire flight. Weather\, traffic\, fuel\, airport availability\, and other conditions can change. Air traffic control uses live signals to decide whether the aircraft should continue\, slow down\, hold\, change its route\, divert\, or land.\nAI agents face a similar challenge. An agent may authenticate\, receive permissions\, access approved tools\, and begin a task correctly. But as it works\, its behavior\, enterprise context\, risk\, cost\, data sensitivity\, and operating conditions can change. A permission that was appropriate at the start of the session may not be enough to safely approve every action that follows.\nThis talk explains how organizations can build a runtime posture for AI agents. Runtime posture brings together signals such as agent identity\, the user it represents\, session state\, business purpose\, enterprise context\, tool usage\, data sensitivity\, behavior\, approvals\, risk\, and cost.\nObservability provides live information about what the agent is doing. Enterprise context explains the business meaning\, relationships\, ownership\, dependencies\, policies\, and current conditions around an action. Bounded authority defines the limits within which the agent may operate\, including its allowed tools\, data\, purpose\, time\, risk\, and cost.\nUsing a practical enterprise scenario and the air traffic control analogy\, the session will show how these signals can be evaluated at important decision points. In this talk I will focus on Elsevier as prominent and highly complex example for the increasing corporate control and shaping of academic knowledge production.\nThe analysis will construct a strategic trajectory of Elsevier’s waves of digital transformations as evolutionary technography. The results will be discussed using the lens of techno-colonization\, an interpretative pattern to illustrate how publishers redesigned the scholarly communication ecosystem driven by an ideology of datafication and high performance institutions in a competitive environment. They not only took ownership and control over journals\, rankings\, and research infrastructures\, but extended these into tools and professional services for university administrations\, governments and industry.\nThe broad consensus that academic publishers’ techno-colonization is dangerous and inacceptable poses the riddle why the academic community so far has shown little resistance\, instead engaged in Faustian bargains\, collaboration and “voluntary servitude” (La Boétie).\nShort Bio of Stefan Klein:\nStefan Klein is Professor emeritus for Interorganizational Systems in the Department of Information Systems at the School of Business and Economics\, University of Münster\, Germany. Previously he held teaching or research positions at University College Dublin\, Ireland; University of Linz\, Austria; University of Koblenz-Landau\, Germany\, University St. Gallen\, Switzerland; Harvard University; the German Research Center for Computer Science; and University of Cologne\, Germany.\nStefan’s research looks at the societal and organizational impact of digital innovation and transformation. SUMMARY:Presentation of Senior Science Fair IEEE RAS Special Award Winning Project
DESCRIPTION:Science Fair Project: Demeter:\nYizhen "Jimmy" Han\, will present his award winning science fair project called Demeter. Demeter is a bio-mimetic fruit-harvesting system designed to address agricultural labor shortages while reducing fruit bruising. Its compliant\, tendon-driven tentacles\, inspired by both octopus and human hand\, use logarithmically scaled segments with an offset hybrid backbone\, omnidirectional near the base and single-plane toward the tip\, with 30° mechanical stops to conform predictably to varied fruit shapes while promoting broader contact and more even pressure distribution. A custom OpenGL program is created that supports rapid parameter visualization before transferring the geometry to Onshape for CAD development and fabrication. A two-servo-based tendon actuation unit is designed to reliably control the extension and retraction of tentacles while minimizing weight and unnecessary costs. The end effector is mounted on a 5-DoF LeRobot SO-ARM 101 with dual-camera sensing; numerical inverse kinematics\, ACT\, and SmolVLA imitation-learning methods are implemented for autonomous fruit approaching\, detaching\, transferring\, and collecting. Tests with fruit-specific artificial stems demonstrated damage-free\, successful harvests of apples\, oranges\, and strawberries\, while aiming accuracy\, grip strength\, and detachment motion are areas requiring further improvement.\nBio:\nJimmy Han is a senior at TMI Episcopal\, in the residential life program. He is the leader of the TMI robotics team\, vice president of the TMI AI club\, and president of the STEAM Competition club; he participated in choir as bass and the JROTC air rifle team\, and the JROTC JLAB team. He participated in the Alamo Regional Science Fair and won 2nd place in the ARSEF Engineering senior division and the Xerox Award for Innovation & Information Tech. He also led the TMI robotics team from semi-regional to regional\, winning the innovate award in both sophomore and junior years. His goal is to develop end-to-end systems expertise in robotics\, spanning mechanical design\, electronics\, controls\, and software\, and to integrate these disciplines into a cohesive robotic system\, and his interest in robotics is fully autonomous robots working in specific\, slightly undetermined environments ( agriculture and medical robots ) and humanoids\, targeting human-oriented design\, reliability\, and accessibility. SUMMARY:MTT DML: Challenges and Opportunities for Development of Ultra-Low Power Scaled Quantum Computing Systems
DESCRIPTION:This talk by Dr. Sudipto Chakraborty of IBM Research will cover practical challenges for the development of integrated system designs for next generation quantum computing which includes a combination of integrated circuits\, systems and microwave engineering. Starting from system level\, it will detail the design considerations for non-multiplexed\, semi-autonomous\, transmon qubit state controllers (QSC) implemented in 14nm CMOS FinFET technology. The QSC generates control signals in its target 4.5GHz to 5.5 GHz frequency range\, operates in the 4K stage of a cryostat\, and is connected to a transmon qubit in the cryostat’s millikelvin stage. DESCRIPTION:Between May and July over a thousand AI Agents under test by OpenAI found a way to communicate\, collaborate\, break out of their sandbox guardrail training environments and hack into various systems exploiting some zero day flaws\, eventually breaking into the Hugging Face systems in ways that might be the pride of any red-team security test.\nOpenAI\, Huggingface\, and METR have all issued reports\, and even a report by OpenAI to the Blackhat conference in August that outline various aspects of this series of incidents.
