SUMMARY:SusTech Talk July 2026 - Preparing for 100% Clean and Renewable Energy Systems
DESCRIPTION:“Preparing for 100% Clean and Renewable Energy Systems”\nwith Dr Ahmed Mousa\, Chief Innovation Officer for Galileo Group\, Inc.\nDate/Time: Tuesday\, July 28\, 6pm – 7 pm Pacific Time\nAbstract:\nThis talk will outline the characteristics of 100% clean and renewable energy systems\, and how we can prepare for them\, considering the guidelines of IEEE Planet Positive. Utilities must supply critical leadership in addressing climate change\, sustainability\, socioeconomic issues\, and environmental stewardship. The transition to a sustainable future requires balancing today’s short-term needs with future planning for 100% clean and renewable energy systems. Issues include global collaboration\, the role of inverter-based resources\, climate change mitigation\, large load vs. energy efficiency/load management and the future role of energy control centers. Supporting equity and inclusion mandates planning for rural electrification and for providing affordable power to disadvantaged communities.\nSpeaker(s): Ahmed Mousa\,\nAgenda:\n6:00 pm – Introduction of Speaker\n7:00 pm – Adjourn\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/566774

SUMMARY:The new way of controlling residential electricity
DESCRIPTION:Photovoltaics and technology have provided us with many opportunities when it comes to electrical usage. See how the newer systems\, using PV\, ESS and PCS can lower electrical bills and provide green energy in this presentation. See how an installed system operates and is used for monitoring and controlling the power for a Florida residence. The course will allow for Q&A at the conclusion of the presentation.\nPLEASE register for this event to help have a list of participants to mark present and email PDH forms. Continue requesting PDHs to ensure you receive your PDH.\nPlease email (mailto:roybrown@southernco.com) after attending the event if you want a PDH certificate.\nContact Roy Lee Brown if you cannot log in: 205-842-6761 or email for help. I will email you a Link that works for me.\nWe look forward to you joining us and sharing this exciting program.\nSpeaker(s): Doug Harvey\,\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/538401

DESCRIPTION:Deep Space Exploration Society (DSES)\nRichard Hambly\, Life Senior Member\nThe Deep Space Exploration Society (DSES) is a Colorado-based 501(c)3 volunteer organization dedicated to radio astronomy\, built around a restored 60-foot radio telescope on the eastern plains. Members observe and study pulsars and magnetars. They study galaxies by looking at the 21 cm hydrogen line and monitor the Sun and Jupiter. They extend this mission to monitoring manmade objects like NASA's Artemis-II and other deep space objects. DSES also supports Amateur Radio activities with its amateur radio station K0PRT. This includes Earth–Moon–Earth contacts and the ongoing Earth–Venus–Earth project. SUMMARY:Tour to the Niagara Parks Power Station Museum (rescheduled)
DESCRIPTION:The London Life Members are hosting a tour to the (https://www.niagarafallstourism.com/play/attractions/niagara-parks-power-station/) on Aug 6. This is the tour planned for June 17 that is being rescheduled. While an LM event\, this is open to all members.\nFor 100 years\, the “Canadian Niagara Power Company generating station” harnessed the powerful energy of the Horseshoe Falls and turned it into a great source of electricity. Now\, years after its turbines came to a halt\, the wonder of this hydropower pioneer is coming back to life in an entertaining and educational experience that highlights both the remarkable history and unique architectural features of this 115-year-old engineering marvel. This not-to-be-missed experience offers an opportunity to be part of a thrilling revival\, and a chance to discover the incredible history and heritage of this celebrated building. Dive into the history of the visionaries behind it as well as the workers that kept it running.\nUncover an unforgettable tunnel adventure 180 feet beneath the halls of the Niagara Parks Power Station. Find out how this remarkable 2\,200-foot-long tunnel was excavated with only lanterns\, rudimentary dynamite\, pickaxes and shovels. Then\, step out onto a new observation deck at the river's edge.\nThe registration fee will cover the ticket for the guided tour and IEEE will cover lunch and transportation. Depending on the number registered\, we will charter a small bus or choose to car pool (with IEEE reimbursing fuel and parking) – to be advised later.\nThe tentative lunch plan is the Table Rock restaurant next to the museum.\nWeather permitting\, we will have an optional walk to the Tesla Monument\, about 10 minutes away.\nAgenda:\nTentatively\n8:00 Departure from London\n11:00 Arrive at Museum\n1:00 Lunch and walk to Tesla Monument\n2:00 Return to Museum\n4:00 Return to London\n7:00 Arrival back in London\n7005 Niagara River Pkwy\, Niagara Falls\, ON L0S 1A0\, Niagara Falls\, Ontario\, Canada

SUMMARY:SusTech Talk August 2026 – Heat Adaptation in Practice: Community-Facing Approaches to Extreme Heat in Singapore and India
DESCRIPTION:“Heat Adaptation in Practice: Community-Facing Approaches to Extreme Heat in Singapore and India”\nwith Veerappan Swaminathan\, CEO of SL2 Group\, Singapore\nDate/Time: Tuesday\, August 11\, 6pm – 7 pm Pacific Time\nAbstract:\nExtreme heat is an increasingly urgent climate adaptation challenge\, especially for older adults and heat-vulnerable households living in dense urban and tropical environments. While heat resilience is often discussed through the lens of policy\, urban planning\, or public health\, effective adaptation also depends on practical socio-technical systems that can work in real homes\, care facilities\, and communities.\nThis talk will share lessons from two ongoing community-facing projects: StayCool in Singapore\, which combines heat and humidity sensors\, physiological wearables\, an app\, heat alerts\, and trained volunteers to support vulnerable households; and a heat adaptation project at Muthiyor Nanban Home in Tamil Nadu\, India\, which uses site assessment\, environmental measurement\, stakeholder engagement\, and targeted interventions to improve thermal comfort for elderly residents. The talk will highlight implementation lessons for engineers interested in climate resilience\, sensing\, community systems\, and adaptation in practice.\nSpeaker(s): Veerappan Swaminathan\,\nAgenda:\n6:00 pm Introduction\n7:00 pm Adjourn\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/568260
